Approximately how many people are in your department or unit?
Approximately 50 people are in the Breast Imaging department, but over 500 employees work in the SSCBC building.

Regarding your department or unit's wellness efforts, which of the nine dimensions of wellness have you addressed?

  • Spiritual

Describe one successful activity that you’ve planned around the nine dimensions of wellness.
With the help of our RBC (Relationship-Based Committee) at SSCBC, we planned and hosted an event called the Amazing Adventure. We utilized money received from the Buckeye Wellness Innovator Grant to fund the event. The Amazing Adventure focused on the nine dimensions of wellness. It was decided that we wanted the event to be fun, fast and informative. The participants were given a passport and received a sticker at each station when a task was completed. At the end, the completed passport earned them an entry into a drawing for prizes.

Describe another successful activity that you’ve planned around the nine dimensions of wellness.
In the past, we have hosted a couple of Lunch-and-Learns that utilized a registered dietician and topics that included healthy eating options.

If you have kept track of participation rates for your activities, what is your approximate average attendance?
Over 90 employees attend this event through signing-in.

If you could accomplish anything as a Buckeye Wellness Innovator, what would your dream be?
I would love to have a place here at SSCBC where employees can work out before/after work or at lunch. Many people take the initiative in good weather to walk outside, but during bad weather it would be great to have options. I would love to get the entire building involved in a least one wellness initiative per year.

What has your direct manager or supervisor specifically done to show support for your role as a Buckeye Wellness Innovator?
Noel has helped us implement our ideas into Wellness Grant proposals and given us time during our work day to work on wellness initiatives. She is an active member in RBC here at SSCBC and worked on the Amazing Adventure's committee.

Please share how you have overcome barriers to engaging your colleagues?
We've tried to have the events on days when the clinics are less busy, as well as organize events to allow for participants to come and go easily. Keeping the events short helps also.
