There are 25 people on my staff

  • Physical
  • Social

Describe one successful activity that your team has planned around the nine dimensions of wellness.
Life in MOTION is the title of this project. I believe that we should get as much movement in as possible to create and live a healthier life, but some of us have a sedentary position at our place of work. We also have co-workers that have a difficult time walking around. And some of us just need new ideas for getting in Motion. I want to address these issues and bring solutions and easy access to my fellow coworkers. Addressing Physical Activity is very important to me because I have seen family and friend’s lives decline because physical activity was not a priority for them, It is sad and I do not want that happening to any more of my family and coworkers or myself. We can prevent a lot of ailments with a physical and nutritional lifestyle change. Being able to offer an easy and convenient way to get physical at work will get people to look and be creative in getting their Life In MOTION. Being able to supply the Mini Pedal Exercisers and a set of hand weights (5lbs, 8lbs & 10lbs) in our break room, will give the easy access and the incentive to get active. The overall outcome will be having more energy, ease of movement(not sitting and getting stiff), and giving off endorphins( happy energy).

Describe another successful activity that your team planned around the nine dimensions of wellness.
I held an H2O party that was Hawaiian themed. My team got to enjoy fruit, vegetable and mint infused water each day for a week. Also, I wrote words of encouragement on oranges and bananas for them to enjoy throughout the day for a healthy snack. Team members enjoyed the refreshing water options and snacks. And it help that is was easily accessible to them all day.

If you could accomplish anything as a Buckeye Wellness Innovator, what would your dream be?

My Big Dream would be to have 100% participation from my team in committing to Living a healthier life by engaging daily with YP4H and Buckeye Wellness Events. Because we all can benefit from the engagement and information we have at our fingertips. It would also help in the team-building efforts that we are aspiring to achieve.

If your team has kept track of participation rates for your activities, what is your approximate average attendance?
This is an ongoing activity that co-workers participate in daily. Some more than others.

Describe how a manager or supervisor in your unit/department/building/college has shown support for your Buckeye Wellness Innovator team.

My manager Kimberly Hale has supported my efforts by making sure I can attend meetings and events that help me to grow in my BWI role. She has helped with my Life In Motion project, finding and securing our new Health Hub location. This is where we will be going to decompress on our lunch breaks with Mindfulness in Motion, yoga, experience our peddlers and weights to get our low impact exercise in. Kimberly has also been a big advocate for all our staff to get involved with YP4H. She is the best Cheerleader and loves to see our team succeed.

What has your lead administrator/dean/vice president/department chair specifically done to show support for your Buckeye Wellness Innovator team?
Amy Helder has shown support to my BWI role, by allowing me to speak in our department meetings and encouraging me to spread all the information I receive to the entire Patient Experience Department.

Please share how your team has overcome barriers to engaging your colleagues and/or students in your wellness efforts.
Education has been the key to getting people on board with different activities and events. Physically helping coworkers log into YP4H and showing them how it works and sending information on monthly events that will be happening through BWI or YP4H. it has boost interest and engagement.
