December 2020 Spotlight

How long has your team been working as a collaborative Buckeye Wellness Innovator group?

Less than a year

Approximately how many people are in your department, unit, building, or college?
There are 24 on my floor

Regarding your department or unit's wellness efforts, which of the nine dimensions of wellness has your team addressed?

  • Physical
  • Social
  • Emotional

Describe one successful activity that your team planned around the nine dimensions of wellness.

During the beginning of closures of gyms due to covid, many staff members weren’t quite sure how they would get their exercise. I posted in our break room virtual classes offered through Buckeye Wellness. I also posed workout videos that I found on YouTube on our unit’s Facebook page.

I work on a surgical floor where most of us have only known surgery patients for many many years. During the beginning of covid, our unit got shut down and we were forced to work on medical floors, dealing with patients whose conditions we were unfamiliar with. Needless to say, stress and anxiety was high. Through postings in our break rooms and word of mouth, I made staff aware of our EAP program. I posted Bern Melnyk’s sign “Cope with Covid” and showed websites for her strategies. I also posted on our unit’s Facebook page links to the Stay Calm series.

If you could accomplish anything as a Buckeye Wellness Innovator, what would your dream be?

I would just like to do whatever I could to help staff to be “relatively” stress-free.

Please share how your team has overcome barriers to engaging your colleagues and/or students in your wellness efforts.

Tried to put what I could online (Facebook) since we were scattered for a while. Also lots of word of mouth.
