April 2021 Spotlight

How long has your team been working as a collaborative Buckeye Wellness Innovator group?

Less than six months

Approximately how many people are in your department, unit, building, or college?
30 Faculty/Residents, 56 Nurses/PSA/staff

Regarding your department or unit's wellness efforts, which of the nine dimensions of wellness has your team addressed?

  • Emotional
  • Environmental
  • Social
  • Creative

Describe one or two successful activities that your team planned around the nine dimensions of wellness.

We had a very successful pumpkin decorating activity in the fall. Everyone at the west office location was given a pumpkin to take home and work their creative magic. The end results were incredible! Then, after a patient stated our white clinic walls were too sterile - we harnessed all these newly discovered creative talents to select appropriate artwork for the clinic walls.

The Virtual Holiday Trivia Celebration was a lively competition between the faculty and residents. In preparation, each person completed a questionnaire, listed interesting facts about themselves and sent childhood photos. The resulting trivia game was successful in learning more about each other and bringing everyone together to share holiday spirit from the safety of our own homes.

If you could accomplish anything as a Buckeye Wellness Innovator, what would your dream be?

My ideal wellness goal would be to connect the different office locations and have an activity for all the faculty, residents, nurses and staff together. Due to Covid restrictions, this objective has been greatly limited. My big dream would be to make sure each person felt appreciated and supported, thus helping prevent burnout and improve mental health during this pandemic.

What has your lead administrator/dean/vice president/department chair specifically done to show support for your role as a Buckeye wellness Innovator?

Dr. Bechtel has been an active participant and is always encouraging others to be involved.

Please share how your team has overcome barriers to engaging your colleagues and/or students in your wellness efforts.

The largest barrier has been the Covid restrictions. Making take-home activities and using virtual platforms for events has helped in overcoming limitations.
